SMB2 Workstation Cache Configuration - To avoid data loss or data corruption when using Windows clients in a network where data is stored on a Windows Server 2008 or higher, the SMB2 file meta data cache needs to be reconfigured. The proper configuration is automatically applied by the MSI package available here.

The reason why mapped aren't visible during software installations:

When UAC is enabled, the system creates two logon sessions at user logon. Both logon sessions are linked to one another. One session represents the user during an elevated session, and the other session where you run under least user rights.

When drive mappings are created, the system creates symbolic link objects (DosDevices) that associate the drive letters to the UNC paths. These objects are specific for a logon session and are not shared between logon sessions.

Microsoft states, "We are aware of the issue and are investigating the situation." This bug through testing is seen in v1909 - v24H2 for Windows 10 & 11. Therefore, without a patch this issue will be around for a long time.
